Creating Impact with Open Data in Agriculture and Nutrition

Call for participation in the hackathon on “Creating Impact with Open Data in Agriculture and Nutrition”

Are you a coder, developer, designer, business developer, expert, scientist wondering how to create impact with Open Data in agriculture and nutrition?

Then come to our event and work alongside with like minded people on data and application challenges close to the 2015 Workshop of GODAN (Global Open Data for Agriculture and Nutrition –

Challenges will be targeted at the problem of the disconnect between data supply (high end statistics, satellite data, etc) and data demand, on different levels of granularity.

We are going to showcase and demonstrate technology developed in the SemaGrow project that provides a distributed infrastructure layer on top of existing data repositories and networks that supports the interoperable and transparent application of data-intensive techniques over heterogeneous data sources. You will work in interdisciplinary teams with support from our experts of the SemaGrow project putting SemaGrow’s tools and technologies to the test in a realistic usage scenario.

The focus will be mostly practical, in hackathon style, with hands-on experience for software developers and researchers working on similar technologies and agri-food data sets, who would like to experiment with the components and tools of SemaGrow. At least working knowledge of data and the use of the REST-based APIs and/or the RDF query language SPARQL are required to actively participate in the hackathon.

The Hackathon will take place in the context of the 2015 Workshop of GODAN (Global Open Data for Agriculture and Nutrition –, titled “Creating Impact with Open Data in Agriculture and Nutrition”, that will organised organised by the Open Data Institute in the UK in collaboration with the Dutch research institute Alterra and will take place in Wageningen, between 19-20 of January 2015.

Location: Wageningen UR, Research Institute Alterra, Netherlands

Dates: 19th January (afternoon), 20th January, 21st January (morning), 2015

Participation is free of cost. But we have a limited number of seats available and ask you to register with us.
