The weekend of 5 and 6 October is a coincidence of Atelierroute Eindhoven and Weekend van de Wetenschap – Hotspot Eindhoven. In Stadslab Eindhoven we present Luis Ferreira – showcasing Collective Strokes.

 Collective Strokes

 Collective Strokes is an interactive and social painting experience, where participants control brushes on a shared digital canvas via a simple wearable sensor. Each movement generates brush strokes, creating a collaborative art piece.

The project encourages social interaction and collective creativity, offering a shared playground where participants can experiment with a unique drawing method, or simply observe a painting come to life by playing a game with the brushes, like catch or mirroring movements. While the experience emphasizes collaboration, customization of the brushes is also possible, adding a personal touch to each painting.

A key technique within Generative Art is known as “smart brush”. Intelligent brushes that can decide what colour or shape to adopt, how and where to move. Collective Strokes combines this technique with the power of human ingenuity for a true collaboration between people and technology.

This project offers potential future applications in performance art or therapeutic settings, where
for example the visual and tactile components combined, provide a pleasant way to heal.
