Unconference Solarpunk Unbound
Keynote 15.00 uur – Jeroen van der Most
Gratis toegang. Locatie – Stadslab Eindhoven, Gasfabriek 6 (NRE campus – Canal zone)
Solarpunk
Solarpunk is a movement in speculative fiction, art, fashion, and activism that poses and embodies the question: “What does a sustainable civilization look like, and how can we get there?”
Why is Solarpunk optimistic about the future?
Solarpunk can be utopian, simply optimistic, or focused on the struggle for a better world, but never dystopian. As our world reels from calamities, we need solutions, not just warnings.
Our futurism is not nihilistic like cyberpunk and avoids the potentially quasi-reactionary tendencies of steampunk: it is about ingenuity, generativity, independence, and community.
What does Solarpunk stand for?
Solarpunk strives for a future that embodies the best that humanity can achieve: a world without scarcity, where humanity sees itself as part of nature, and where clean energy replaces fossil fuels.
The “punk” in Solarpunk is about rebellion, counterculture, equality, daring, and enthusiasm. It’s about choosing a different direction than the mainstream, which is increasingly moving in a frightening direction.
Solarpunk embraces a diversity of tactics: there’s no one right way to be solarpunk. Instead, diverse communities around the world are adopting the name and ideas and building small, self-organizing biotopes.
Solarpunk emphasizes ecological sustainability and social justice. It’s about finding ways to make life more wonderful now, for us, and for generations to come.
In Solarpunk, we’ve returned just in time to stop the slow destruction of our planet. We’ve learned to use science wisely, to improve our living conditions as part of our planet. We are no longer rulers. We are stewards. We are gardeners.
